Toyota Safety Sense™ Now Standard on Most 2017 Models

Toyota has always displayed a strong commitment to driver safety. However, they are now taking that commitment a step above and beyond by making advanced safety features standard on many new 2017 models. Toyota Safety Sense™ technologies help drivers and passengers not just survive accidents, but avoid them entirely. The features are divided into two different packages – Toyota Safety Sense C™ and Toyota Safety Sense P™ – that now come with any trim of 13 different Toyota models. You can learn more about these safety features and the Toyota lineup at Dick Dyer Toyota

Toyota Safety Sense C™

This package come standard on the 2017 Toyota Yaris, 2017 Toyota Corolla iM, and 2017 Toyota Prius c. It uses a combination of cameras and laser sensors to help you avoid common roadway hazards.

  • Pre Collision System: Sensors monitor the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you at speeds ranging from 7 mph to 85 mph. If the brakes are applied too late, this system will automatically boost braking power to reduce stopping distance. If the brakes are not applied at all, the system will automatically initiate a stop.
  • Lane Departure Warning: Cameras monitor the white or yellow lines on either side of the car. If the driver drifts out of their lane, audio and visual cues are automatically activated.
  • Automatic High Beams: When an oncoming vehicle is detected, the high beams are automatically lowered. After the vehicle passes the high beams return to their original brightness again.

Toyota Safety Sense P™

The 2017 Toyota RAV4/RAV4 HV, 2017 Toyota Prius LB, 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2017 Toyota Corolla, 2017 Toyota Avalon/Avalon HV, or 2017 Toyota Highlander/Highlander HV all come with this enhanced suite of safety features.

Toyota Prius's
  • Enhanced Vehicle Detection: This features does the same thing as the pre-collision system but at speeds up to 110 mph.
  • Pedestrian Detection: If a pedestrian is detected in front of the vehicle when it is traveling at speeds between 7 and 50 mph, the car will automatically apply the brakes.
  • Steering Assist Function: This features does the same thing as lane departure warning but provides actual steering inputs to keep the car in the correct lane.
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Sensors track the location of the vehicle relative to the one in front of it at speeds between 25 mph and 110 mph. If the cruise control has been activated and the vehicle in front slows down, your vehicle automatically responds to maintain a safe distance.
  • Full Speed Dynamic Range Cruise Control: This system operates much like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, but at speeds ranging from 0 to 110 mph.
