Powering the 2017 Toyota Corolla is a 1.8L four-cylinder, which is good for 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque on all models except the LE Eco, which uses a different valve train to lift output to 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), but drivers who select the SE trim can choose a six-speed manual if they so desire. The best fuel economy figures come from the Corolla LE Eco model, which can reach an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

There’s no shortage of options when it comes to the 2017 Toyota Corolla, as it has seven trims to offer Columbia drivers:

  • L: The introductory Toyota Corolla provides comfort with air conditioning and adjustable front seats, convenience with adaptive cruise control and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and safety thanks to a rearview camera. Entertainment is delivered in abundance thanks to Bluetooth connectivity and a six-speaker Entune audio system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen.
  • LE: The second-level trim adds heated mirrors, keyless entry, automatic climate control, and 16-inch steel wheels.
  • LE Eco: This trim adjusts engine and suspension tuning to maximize fuel efficiency, enhances aerodynamics, and adds a rear spoiler.
  • XLE: You can expect a lot more features from the Corolla XLE, like a sunroof, heated front seats, an upgraded driver information display, and the Entune Audio Plus system, which upgrades the basic system to include a 7-inch touchscreen and an app-based navigation system.
  • SE: The SE is the only trim that can come equipped with the manual transmission, and it also emphasizes performance and style with a black mesh grille up front, 17-inch alloy wheels, sport front seats, and a chrome-tipped exhaust.
  • SE 50th Anniversary Edition: This unique trim level adds 50th anniversary accessories to the Corolla to commemorate 50 years in production, as well as upgraded upholstery.
  • XSE: The topmost trim in the lineup gets keyless ignition and entry, an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat, and a sunroof.

The 2017 Corolla’s cabin is quite appealing, with high-tech features like a touchscreen and smartphone app integration along with style in the form of a sweeping dashboard and touches like a sport-contoured steering wheel. Expect lots of room in back for passengers, and 13.0 cubic feet in the trunk. A wide trunk opening makes loading up even easier, and provides Lexington and Blythewood drivers with optimal cargo space.

There has been plenty of praise about the 2017 Toyota Corolla from top experts in the auto industry:

  • Edmunds: “For 2017, the Corolla also makes a great leap with new safety features and driver aids on all models, including a rearview camera, forward collision warning, lane departure intervention and adaptive cruise control — features that aren’t commonly standard even on luxury sedans. Add the Corolla’s high fuel economy and great reputation for resale value, and you have all the ingredients for a car that pleases more than it disappoints.”
  • The Car Connection: “The 2017 Toyota Corolla takes a well-deserved bow this year for 50 years of drama-free commuting. This model is entirely acceptable, and we’re thankful for an available suite of advanced safety tech.”
